American and Canadian students go to the United States or Canada, as you would expect. The university prides itself on its ability to offer students a wide range of study abroad opportunities, but unfortunately it is not possible for us to guarantee exchange candidates a place in a specific partner institution or in a specific geographical region. Applicants are also informed that while in a given year the majority of our partners will receive students from the University of Birmingham, the nature of our agreements with them means that some institutions will not be open to accepting students from Birmingham in a few years. Students from faculties with Erasmus+ agreements are assigned by their department to exchange universities. As with the international exchange program, a student must have sufficient prior knowledge of the language of instruction of the institution in order to fully engage at the university level. If students wish to stay in university accommodation, they must enter into a separate contract (a bachelor`s degree) with the university. The license and further information can be found here. Please note that this agreement only applies to accommodation managed by the university, i.e. the university locks for 2019/20. Other providers and private owners have their own separate terms that students should carefully consider before accepting them. Students are advised to seek independent legal advice before signing legally binding agreements.

If you are back home but a) still have expenses directly and exclusively related to your stay in the destination country, such as rent and electricity and/or b) you participate in virtual learning or other virtual activities (if the institution/organization of the destination country has made them available as an alternative to the activities initially planned), so yes, you can keep your grant.
